American Airlines Initiatives Aid Tsunami Relief Efforts

American Airlines
today announced it is developing a series of initiatives to assist the
international tsunami relief efforts now underway in South Asia, including
launching immediate efforts to bring in donations to the American Red
Cross and the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund
(UNICEF.) “Our employees’ response to help in a time of great need comes from a
genuine desire to make a personal and corporate difference in bettering
the lives of people,” said Jeff Brundage, American’s Senior Vice
President-Human Resources. “The devastation and personal suffering brought
about by this catastrophic event impacts every country throughout the
world, directly or indirectly. Our prayers and sympathies go out to all
those affected by this terrible tragedy.”

American has designated Jan. 10-14 as Tsunami Relief Week. During this
week, employees are planning fund-raising activities across the company,
with an unprecedented number of volunteers already having signed up to
lead the efforts.

In addition, American is supporting various groups of volunteer medical
professionals who aid and care for the tsunami victims, beginning with
transportation for nine medical professionals and equipment to the
affected region. (Photograph available at
