Rising demand forces Austrian to increase cargo flights to Kiev

Due to the rapidly increasing demand for cargo capacity to Ukraine, Austrian Cargo raised the number of cargo-only flights it provides to Kiev from two to three a week. The all-cargo service is provided in cooperation with Ukraine International Airlines (UIA). The all-cargo services are provided in addition to the standard cargo service on daily Vienna-Kiev-Vienna passenger services. By taking this step, the Austrian Airlines Group is strengthening its Central and East European competence as market leader in the cargo segment. Since the all-cargo connection was launched in November 2003, the flights have transported more than 1,000 tons of cargo. The flights are made using an Antonov 12 belonging to UIA with cargo capacity of around 20 tons or 80 cubic metres. The primary advantages of the all-cargo flights are that they enable rapid air transportation of high-volume and bulky consignments, and that they can use an integrated loading crane for goods weighing up to 2,500 kg. Departures from Vienna in future will take place on Mondays and Wednesdays at 20.25, and on Fridays at 22.25.

This new service to Kiev completes the extensive cargo service operating between Vienna and Ukraine, which features direct flights to Dnepropetrovsk, Kharkov, Lviv and Odessa. Further connections are possible via Kiev to other cities within the Ukraine, as well as to the Georgian capital Tbilisi. The Austrian Airlines Group operates scheduled flights to 38 destinations in the Central and East European region, and is the only carrier in the European Union to feature five cities in Ukraine in its regular programme of scheduled flights.
