20 selected cities battled for the prestigious title of Best European Destination 2012. This week, the winners were announced. Brussels was ranked 5th of the top 10 in Europe.

Brussels’ multicultural character is among the city’s most memorable qualities enjoyed by visitors. In addition, its creativity, good food and touch of self-mockery, are all part of what makes Brussels so unique.

Brussels is certainly delighted with the result. Visit Brussels CEO Patrick Bontinck said, “This achievement proves that the visitors find Brussels - that not so long ago was known as the most boring city - a top European destination. We see this recognition as a great compliment to the efforts of the entire tourism sector. Today we are 5th, we are however going to do our upmost to achieve a spot in the top 3 next time.”
