Breaking Travel News investigates: Altis Belém Hotel & Spa, Portugal
The Altis Belém Hotel & Spa is a five-star design Hotel located just a few steps from the Tagus River, in Doca do Bom Sucesso, the cultural and historic quarter of Belém, Portugal.
The hotel is between the two main monuments that represent the Portuguese discoveries: the Belém Tour and the Padrão dos Descobrimentos
The architectural project is created by the renowned Portuguese architect Manuel Salgado and the interior design by the no less famous architectural pair Margarida Grácio Nunes and Fernando Sanches Salvador.
As the surrounding area is full of the landmarks dedicated to Portuguese achievements in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the hotel is all centred on a theme of ‘Discovery’, with a modern and design-led approach.

All of the 45 Rooms and five suites have a wall representing all the territories in the world that the Portuguese explored.
These include areas from the western coast of Africa, and up the east coast to the Red Sea; then round the Persian Gulf, down the coast of Malabar, up the coast of Coromandel, among the islands of the Archipelago, along the shores of Siam and Burma to Canton and Shanghai, and South America.
The rooms and suites offer all the comforts and high tech equipment, including an interactive plasma TV system with music, films, games and information, Nespresso machines, electric curtains, safe boxes, wireless internet access, a mini bar, and a working area.
A balcony Jacuzzi in on offer in some suites, while signature amenities, extra comfortable beds and top quality Portuguese linen are among other luxury details.
The hotel is all about the details, with historical topic present in the wide public areas, including the lounge, business centre, library, reception, and shopping spaces.
