Airbus has delivered the first-ever A321neo. The latest generation aircraft powered by CFM International’s LEAP-1A engines was handed over to Virgin America, an all-Airbus operator, at a ceremony in Hamburg, Germany.

Alaska Airlines to retire Virgin America name in 2019
Alaska Airlines has confirmed it will retire the Virgin America name, likely in 2019. However, the combined airline will seek to adopt some Virgin America elements, including enhanced in-flight entertainment, mood lighting, and music.

Alaska Airlines to acquire Virgin America for $4bn
Alaska Air Group and Virgin America have confirmed that their boards of directors have unanimously approved a definitive merger agreement, under which Alaska Air Group will acquire Virgin America for $57.00 per share in cash. Including existing Virgin America indebtedness and capitalised aircraft operating leases, the aggregate transaction value is approximately $4 billion.

Virgin America is adding a new service to Hawai’i with daily nonstop flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Honolulu, Oahu on May 5, 2016, and Kahului, Maui on June 14, 2016.

Virgin America signs codeshare with China Southern Airlines
Virgin America and China Southern Airlines announce a codeshare agreement to offer seamless booking and travel between China, Southeast Asia and multiple Virgin America destinations across the United States. Under the new agreement, China Southern will place its two-digit airline code and flight numbers on a range of Virgin America routes operating from Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Virgin America welcomes Netflix to skies
Today, Netflix, the world’s leading Internet TV network, and Virgin America, have joined forces to provide complimentary in-flight Wi-Fi access that allows new and existing Netflix members to enjoy the entire Netflix catalogue of films and award-winning shows. Travelport has announced Virgin America has signed up for the Travelport Rich Content & Branding solution. Virgin America becomes the latest airline to commit to the software, a key component of the Travelport Travel Commerce Platform, which allows airlines to market and retail their products more effectively by controlling how their product is visually presented and described to travel agents.

Virgin America extends San Francisco Giants partnership
The San Francisco Giants and Virgin America have signed a multi-year partnership extension, which maintains the Bay Area-based airline’s position as the “Official Airline of the San Francisco Giants” through the end of 2018.

Virgin America has announced that it has filed a registration statement with the Securities & Exchange Commission for a proposed initial public offering of its common stock. Cash raised from any floatation will be used to fund an expansion of the airline.

Virgin America expands Austin flights to double-daily
Virgin America has announced it will expand its schedule to two daily non-stop roundtrips between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and its home base at San Francisco International Airport, as of July 8th, 2014. The California-based airline first introduced service between the innovation capitals of Austin and San Francisco in May 2013.
