Thai tourism arrivals cross 22 million mark in 2012

Thailand has achieved record-breaking visitor arrivals, crossing the 22 million mark for the first time in 2012. Figures tabulated by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports for January – December 2012 show total arrivals by nationality of 22,303,065, up 15.98 percent over 2011.

A British tourist has been killed in Thailand, according to the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office. Named as Stephen Ashton, the holidaymaker was reportedly caught by a stray bullet during a fight between two groups at a bar on Koh Phangan during New Year’s Eve celebrations.

A British man has been confirmed among the four dead in a fire that broke out in a nightclub in Thailand last week. A French national and two Thai women were also killed in the blaze at the Tiger Disco Club in Phuket, meanwhile the cause has not yet been confirmed but it has been linked to lightning.

A fire at a nightclub on the Thai resort island of Phuket has killed four people, and injured more than twenty, according to reports. The cause of the fire, which broke out on Friday morning, has not yet been confirmed but it is thought to be linked to lightning striking a transformer.
