Qatar Airways has become the first airline to fly the state-of-the-art Airbus A350 to the Maldives. The airline has upgraded its current double-daily A330 service to an A350, with the first A350 beginning operations today and the second A350 service joining shortly afterwards on November 3rd.

Qatar Airways has responded to increased customer demand for services to Thailand by launching direct flights to Pattaya, the airline’s fifth route to the country. The new four-times-a-week service, which starts on January 28th, is in addition to the airline’s existing flights to Bangkok, Krabi, Phuket and soon to be launched, Chiang Mai.

Qatar Airways has strengthened its commitment to Italy with the acquisition of a 49 per cent of AQA Holding, the new parent company of Meridiana fly (Meridiana). Qatar Airways currently flies from Doha to Rome, Venice, Pisa and Milan a total of 42 times per week and this partnership will further strengthen the airline’s ties to Italy, while promoting job creation within the country, and from where it connects passengers to more than 150 destinations around the world.

Boeing and Qatar Airways announced an order today for two 747-8 Freighters and four 777-300ERs (Extended Range), valued at $2.16 billion at list prices. The airline also received the first of its 747-8 Freighters at a delivery ceremony attended by Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways chief executive and Boeing Commercial Airplanes president Kevin McAllister.

Qatar Airways will add four additional weekly flights to Sohar, its newest destination in the Sultanate of Oman, from October 1st. The additional frequency was added in response to increased passenger demand, and will take the number of weekly flights between Doha and the Sultanate of Oman from 52 to 56.
