New president for Princess Cruises
Princess Cruises has announced that Jan Swartz has been promoted to president of the brand, effective December 1st, 2013. Reporting to Holland America Group chief executive Stein Kruse, Swartz will oversee the Princess line’s worldwide operations which includes 17 ships, 22,000 employees serving more than 1.4 million passengers annually.

Princess Cruises is celebrating CPR awareness during the month of June by announcing a special cruise to benefit the American Heart Association (AHA). Expected to raise $1 million for the Association’s heart health programs and educational outreach, the cruise is the second in Princess’ new “Cruising for a Cause” series that devotes an entire sailing to support a charitable cause.

In a spectacular ceremony in Southampton, Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge has named the new ship Royal Princess with the release of a bottle of champagne which smashed against its hull. Standing on the naming platform with the ship’s captain Tony Draper, The Duchess pronounced: “I name this ship Royal Princess. May God bless her and all who sail in her.”

Royal Princess arrives in Southampton ahead of launch
A musical salute provided a spectacular welcome for Royal Princess to Southampton earlier as the new cruise ship arrived to begin a week-long series of special inaugural events. British actor, director and writer Simon Callow orchestrated the Southampton University Brass Band to serenade the new Princess Cruises ship with a rendition of “God Save The Queen” as the vessel sailed into the harbor.
