Security chiefs at Manchester Airport have been left red faced after an 11 year-old-boy was able to board a Jet2 plane alone, without a passport. The child was only discovered on board the flight to Rome when other passengers became concerned for his welfare.

A leading hospital consultant has refused to go through an X-ray scanner at Manchester Airport, claiming it could give him cancer. The eye specialist, who was flying to Switzerland on business, said: “X-rays are known to cause cancer and I think somebody will get cancer from this body scanner whether it’s me or someone else.”

An Airbus A380 operated by Emirates has arrived at Manchester Airport – making the city the first regional destination to receive the superjumbo. The airport spent £10 million preparing for the arrival, which marks the inauguration of a daily flight between the north of England and Dubai.
