Etihad Airways has today announced the launch of a social media promotion in Manchester for a chance to get up close and personal with the Capital One Cup and win a trip to Abu Dhabi, the airline’s home city. The air carrier has teamed up with Manchester Airport and Manchester City FC to invite participants to #EtihadHunt on April 18th 2014.
Saudia resumes direct flight to Manchester are five year hiatus
Manchester Airport has welcomed its first direct flight from Jeddah for over five years, as Saudia’s inaugural flight touched down at Terminal Two. The new route, which will operate three times a week, will be a great asset to businesses in the region and Saudi Arabia, plus it will also be incredibly beneficial to Greater Manchester’s Muslim community during festivals such as Hajj.
flynas brings low-cost Saudi flights to Manchester
flynas, a low-cost carrier out of Saudi Arabia, has announced the launch of non-stop flights from Jeddah to Manchester Airport from May 2nd 2014. The move is part of its ambitious Global Flight Routes program. The flights will operate three times a week, offering easy access to Britain’s north.
Manchester Airport welcomes record passenger numbers
A total of 1.3 million passengers travelled through Manchester Airport in December 2013, which was 5.4 per cent higher than the figure recorded in 2012. The escalation in passenger figures marks the airport’s 19 consecutive month of year on year growth, with performance attributed to the busy Christmas period where the airport saw over 720,000 festive travellers arrive and depart, a rise of 1.2 per cent, as well as having over 153,000 extra seats available to popular destinations compared with the previous winter season.
Continued growth for Manchester Airport as charter market takes off
With winter schedules now firmly in operation, November saw eighteen months of consecutive growth at Manchester Airport, with 1,313,810 passengers travelling through the UK’s third largest airport last month. The moving annual total of passengers is currently at 20,624,526, a rise of 5.18 per cent compared to last year.

Over 2.3 million passengers travelled through Manchester Airport in August 2013, which was over seven per cent up on August 2012, with market growth at just over five per cent. The increase in passenger figures marks the airport’s fifteenth consecutive month of year on year growth, with performance attributed to an increase in international scheduled traffic at 14 per cent higher than August 2012.

Manchester Airport is presently seeing its busiest summer since 2008 with passenger numbers increase in July for the 14th consecutive month. In total over 2.2 million people passed through the UK’s third largest airport.
Manchester Airport records strong increase in passenger numbers
During the last 12 months, 19.81 million passengers travelled through Manchester Airport, delivering an extra 680,000 people more than the last financial year - equalling a 3.6 per cent year on year growth. The increase in passenger numbers has been attributed to the fourteen new destinations, including Washington DC and Moscow that were added to the route network during that time, while new destinations are being added for the summer.

Manchester Airport has confirmed today that its trial of “naked” body scanners will end in October when testing will also begin on a new generation of privacy friendly security scanners.

Manchester Airport Group has grown its share of the UK aviation market by 0.4% to 15.8%, increasing passenger numbers across the group by 1.5m to 24.0m, which represents the first annual increase since 2008.
Virgin Atlantic launches first domestic service in UK
Virgin Atlantic is launching flights from London Heathrow to Manchester Airport in the airline’s first foray into the domestic market. The new route, will be operated with three daily flights to Manchester using Airbus A319 aircraft, will commence in March.
Manchester Airport hit by fog diversions
Eight flights have been diverted from Manchester Airport overnight due to fog in the local area and poor visibility. Four have since returned and the remaining flights are expected to return during the morning.
