San Domenico Palace Hotel reopens in Italy ahead of G7 summit
San Domenico Palace Hotel has reopened its doors following its acquisition by Italian real estate expert, Statuto Luxury Hotels, last year. The historic hotel is set to host a selection of the world’s political leaders during the upcoming G7 meeting in Taormina in May.

Milan Bergamo Airport breaks passenger records in 2016
Milan Bergamo Airport witnessed another year of robust growth throughout 2016, welcoming close to one million more passengers than the year before. Experiencing 7.2 per cent passenger traffic growth, Milan Bergamo was Italy’s third busiest airport last year, handling over 11.1 million passengers – a new record for the gateway.
Fatalities feared in Italian hotel avalanche
A number of fatalities are feared at the Rigopiano Hotel in the Abruzzo region of Italy after the property was hit by an avalanche. Rescuers were at the scene overnight as they fought to reach the hotel close to the Gran Sasso Mountain.
Lacroix takes up business development role with Rome Cavalieri
Rome Cavalieri has appointed Elodie Lacroix to the role of director of business development. Lacroix brings a wealth of luxury hospitality experience to the role, having previously held the position of director of sales and marketing at the Royal Monceau, Raffles Paris and as director of sales for the Jumeirah Hotels & Resorts Group in London.
Grand Hotel Tremezzo signs Superga partnership
Lake Como’s luxurious Grand Hotel Tremezzo has signed a new partnership with Superga. The Turin-born brand chose the beautiful hotel on the lake to shoot their new ad campaign for the Superga Panatta Sport model, a remake of 1976 tennis shoe worn by tennis champion Adriano Panatta when he won Roland Garros, Davis Cup and the Rome International grand slams.
Deadly earthquake strikes central Italy
An earthquake has struck central Italy killing at least 73 people and leaving dozens more trapped under rubble. Damage from the 6.2 quake was centred on the town of Amatrice, while a family of four are also believed to have been killed by collapsing rubble in the nearby town of Accumoli.
Etihad Airways to launch daily flight to Venice, Italy
Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, will expand its services to Italy with a daily flight to Venice Marco Polo Airport. The new service will begin from October 30th and be served by an Airbus A319, offering 16 seats in Business and 90 in Economy. Together with Alitalia, its codeshare and equity partner, Etihad Airways will offer 35 weekly flights in and out of Italy, including double daily services to Rome and Milan.

Ryanair flies into Venice Marco Polo
Ryanair has confirmed its route from Bristol to Venice Treviso will move to Venice Marco Polo from September. This is in addition to the new route to Bucharest and two new winter services to Krakow and Milan announced earlier, which will deliver over 1.7 million customers and support 1,300 jobs at Bristol Airport.
NH Group signs latest luxury property in Rome
NH Hotel Group has signed a new deal to open its sixth hotel in the Italian capital city of Rome. The new hotel will be operated under the group’s premium brand, NH Collection, and will have 180 rooms, as well as dedicated meeting and event rooms. Due to open at the end of 2015, it will be the company’s third NH Collection-branded hotel in the city and its tenth in Italy.
Emirates set to fly into Bologna, Italy, from November
Emirates will launch a daily service to Bologna, Italy, from its base in Dubai on November 3rd, 2015. The capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, Bologna will be Emirates’ fourth Italian destination bringing Emirates’ weekly flights to Italy to 56. Set to be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER in a three class configuration, Emirates will offer the only long-haul wide-bodied service to and from Bologna.
