Marriott International to bring Edition brand to Iceland
Marriott International, in association with Ian Schrager and Carpenter & Company, has will open its first hotel in Iceland in 2018, The Reykjavik Edition. Edition combines the personal, intimate, individualised and unique hotel experience that Ian Schrager is known for, with the global reach, operational expertise and scale of Marriott International.
British Airways prepares new European routes for take-off
British Airways customers will be spoilt for choice this winter, with another two new routes launching from Heathrow. From October 25th British Airways will start flying three times a week to Reykjavik in Iceland and twice a week to Salzburg in Austria, from December 5th.

Authorities in Iceland have begun to evacuate an area surrounding the Bardarbunga Volcano as fears grow it could erupt. The area, which is more than 190 miles from the capital Reykjavik, has no permanent residents but sits within a national park popular with tourists.

Promote Iceland has announced starting 2014 on a high, having seen a record growth of 65.2 per cent in British visitors to Iceland during January 2014. In January 2013 Iceland received 10,031 tourists from the UK market, while January 2014 saw a record 16,576 visits from British tourists, signifying an increase of 65.2 per cent.
Promote Iceland selects Brighter Group in UK
London-based travel specialist The Brighter Group is welcoming a successful start to the New Year with its appointment as the UK PR agency for Promote Iceland. The Brighter Group is tasked with increasing awareness of Iceland as a travel destination, particularly in the off-peak autumn and winter months.
Iceland set to triple VAT on accommodation
The Icelandic government has published proposals to raise the value added tax on accommodation, restaurant meals and attractions from seven per cent to 25.5 per cent as of the May 1st 2013. This proposal more than trebles the tax on all those services that tourists need to purchase.

Iceland is showcasing its notorious volcanic nature by launching a tour inside the Thrihnukagigur Volcano, near Reykjavik. Visitors will be able to explore the volcano from the outside and from within the magma chamber on an exclusive six-week opening from June 15- July 31 2012.

UK visitor numbers to Iceland rise by 7.5 per cent in October
UK visitor numbers to Iceland have again started to increase after a record start to 2010. Numbers from the UK in October were up by 7.5 per cent on last year, with more than 6,500 people visiting the country during the month.
