IATA AGM 2014: Calls for government to toughen air rage penalties
The International Air Transport Association is calling on governments to ratify important changes to the Tokyo Convention 1963 which were agreed at a diplomatic conference in Montreal. The Tokyo Convention provides the legal framework for dealing with passengers whose unruly or disruptive behaviour leads to physical assault or poses a threat to the safety of a flight.
IATA AGM 2014: IATA welcomes US transport department support for Resolution 787
The International Air Transport Association has welcomed the decision by the United States Department of Transportation to tentatively approve Resolution 787. The Resolution is the foundation document for the New Distribution Capability, a travel industry-supported program launched by IATA for the development and market adoption of a new, XML-based data transmission standard.

The International Air Transport Association has announced global passenger traffic results for April showing a healthy increase in demand. Total revenue passenger kilometres rose 7.5 per cent compared to April 2013, an improvement over March growth of 2.9 per cent.

Clifford to lead IATA in Asia-Pacific
The International Air Transport Association has appointed Conrad Clifford as regional vice president for Asia Pacific. Clifford joins IATA on February 1st 2014 and will be based in its Asia Pacific Regional Office in Singapore.
New appointment for IATA
The International Air Transport Association has appointed Kevin Hiatt as Senior Vice President, Safety and Flight Operations. Hiatt will join IATA on 17 February 2014 and be based at the Association’s headquarters in Montreal. He will succeed Guenther Matschnigg, who is retiring from IATA.
IATA predicts large increase in aviation by 2017
The International Air Transport Association has released the Airline Industry Forecast 2013-2017 showing that airlines expect to see a 31 per cent increase in passenger numbers between 2012 and 2017. By 2017 total passenger numbers are expected to rise to 3.91 billion - an increase of 930 million passengers over the 2.98 billion carried in 2012.
Middle East air travel leads global aviation
The Middle East aviation sector is leading a global revival of air travel growth, recording a year-on-year double digit increase of international passengers, according to the latest report released by the International Air Transport Association. The Air Passenger Market Analysis report said that Middle East carriers continue to experience the strongest rates of international passenger growth, with year-to-date Revenue Passenger Kilometres growing by 12.2 per cent from August 2012 to August 2013.

Qatar Airways has joined oneworld alliance, adding one of the world’s fastest growing and most highly rated airlines to the world’s fastest growing and most highly rated global airline alliance. Since them oneworld has also welcomed Brazil’s TAM Airlines, US Airways and SriLankan Airlines, completing the biggest membership expansion in oneworld’s history.
IATA: Landmark agreement on climate change at ICAO
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) praised the leadership of governments in reaching a landmark agreement on Climate Change at the close of the 38th Assembly of the United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
