Vietnam Airlines began its new non-stop services from Gatwick to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) today providing British travellers with a direct route to Vietnam for the very first time . Until today, it was only possible to reach this popular Asia-Pacific tourist destination via regional hubs such as Hong Kong and Bangkok.

London Gatwick Airport has seen strong passenger growth during the six months from April and September, with an 8.5 per cent increase in traffic. Growth was driven by existing carriers – including easyJet, British Airways and Norwegian expanding operations and adding new routes.

Gatwick Airport has officially opened the new look North Terminal following the completion of the £73 million project to extend the building to accommodate 20 million passengers per year by 2020. The eastern end of the terminal has been extended to provide additional check-in and baggage reclaim capacity, while there are 18 new check-in desks taking the total to 144, of which 70 are self-service options.

A government decision to halt the expansion of airports in the south-east of England could cost the British economy as much as £47 billion over the next 50 years, according to a report commissioned by Gatwick Airport. Gatwick Airport in London has welcomed the arrival of guests from the capital city of Malaysia for the first time as AirAsia X touched down on its new London home, having switched from Stansted Airport.
