Cathay Pacific to launch Gatwick-Hong Kong route in 2016
Cathay Pacific Airways has announced that it will launch a new four-times-weekly service from London’s Gatwick Airport and Hong Kong on September 2nd, 2016. Subject to government approval, Cathay will be the only airline that flies non-stop between Gatwick and Hong Kong.
Gatwick Airport rail links set for pay as you go in 2016
Passengers travelling between Gatwick Airport and London will soon be able to use pay as you go, rail minister Claire Perry has confirmed today. The news follows an agreement between the government, Transport for London and the operator, Govia Thameslink Railway.
London Gatwick records highest ever monthly passenger total
London Gatwick announced the busiest month in its history with more than 4.53 million passengers travelling through the airport in August. The figure represents a 3.7 per cent increase on the previous year. The airport has achieved 30 months of consecutive growth with 39.5 million passengers passing through the airport in the last twelve months, up six per cent year on year.
London Gatwick set for busiest ever Bank Holiday weekend
London Gatwick is set for its busiest ever August Bank Holiday weekend as 580,000 passengers plan to travel through the airport. The figure is an increase of 17.2 per cent on Bank Holiday passenger numbers since the airport became independent from BAA in 2009. Berlin sees the biggest rate of growth of any destination, rising by 54 per cent on 2014 joined by Madrid, up 26 per cent and Istanbul up 22 per cent.
London Gatwick reaches record passenger numbers in July
London Gatwick announced two-and-a-half years of consecutive month-on-month traffic growth and achieved its busiest ever July - with 4.3 million passengers travelling through the airport. The figure represents a 6.4 per cent increase on the previous year. The airport’s long-haul routes were the key drivers of this impressive performance up seven per cent on the previous year.

Expansion at Gatwick Airport remains the only “deliverable option” according to chief executive Stewart Wingate. The announcement follows the release of the Davies Commission report into aviation expansion in the south-east of England earlier, which recommended expansion of London Heathrow Airport.

Gatwick on track for Thameslink upgrade to rail services
The first new Thameslink trains serving Gatwick Airport are on track to begin service from spring 2016 on the Brighton to Bedford line, the manufacturer Siemens has announced. From 2018, these new trains will also start operating on two new direct services connecting Gatwick to both Peterborough and Cambridge, following completion of the £6.5 billion Thameslink infrastructure upgrade programme. In addition, new Gatwick Express trains will also start service between the airport and London Victoria from early 2016, with 108 new carriages built by Bombardier being designed specifically for the airport passenger.
