Finnair to boost Russian flights from summer
This summer Finnair will open new routes to Nizhny Novgorod, Samara and Kazan, three prominent and historic regional centres on the Volga River in the Russian Federation. Services to Nizhny Novgorod International Airport begin on July 25th, while Samara’s Kurumoch International Airport will be served from August 7th and Kazan International Airport from August 18th.
Finnair SkyWheel comes to Helsinki
The Finnair SkyWheel opened to the public this week at the Katajanokka Harbour in central Helsinki, not far from where Finnair first based its flight operations (as Aero Oy) in the 1920s. The 40-metre observation wheel is equipped with 30 climate-controlled blue-and-white gondolas for year-round operation, including one special VIP cabin featuring glass floor, leather seats and Veuve Clicquot champagne service.
Finnair launches new check-in facilities
Finnair customers will soon have the option of dropping their checked baggage at a self-service bag drop unit immediately after check-in. Together with Finavia, Finnair will install ten self-service bag drop units for Finnair customers in the departure hall of Terminal 2 at Helsinki Airport by the end of May.
Finnair sees capacity slip as Asian market falters
In March, Finnair’s overall capacity decreased by 3.9 per cent year-on-year and traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres decreased by 5.4 per cent year-on-year. Passenger load factor decreased by 1.2 percentage points and was 79 per cent. The capacity in Asian traffic decreased by one per cent and the traffic measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometres decreased by 3.7 per cent year-on-year.
Finnair links with S7 Airlines for codeshare deal
Finnair and fellow oneworld alliance member S7 Airlines have agreed to new codeshare arrangements. From April 26th, Finnair code will be added to S7’s new service between Helsinki and Moscow’s Domodedovo International Airport, as well as to selected onward S7 services from Domodedovo to Novosibirsk, Kazan, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Ufa and Yekaterinburg.
Finnair adds departures on popular Bangkok route
Next December Finnair will supplement its double-daily winter service to Bangkok with three additional frequencies per week from December 30th, 2014 to March 27th, 2015. The extra flights bring the number of Finnair’s peak-season weekly Bangkok services to 17, the most frequencies of any European carrier.
Finnair flies into Miami, Florida for seasonal flights
Next winter Finnair will begin operating non-stop scheduled services between Helsinki and Miami, Florida. The new seasonal flight, operated with Airbus A340 aircraft in a two-class Business and Economy cabin configuration, will commence from December 16th, 2014 until March 21st, 2015.
Finnair to fly more guests into Lapland
Finnair and the biggest tour operators in Lapland have agreed a three-year cooperation arrangement for flights to Lapland as well as cooperation in marketing. The airline will significantly add to its Lapland flight schedule in November 2014 with the start of the winter traffic timetable season.
Japanese weakness hits results at Finnair
In December, Finnair traffic measured in revenue passenger kilometres decreased by 2.7 per cent and the overall capacity decreased 0.9 per cent year‐on‐year. Passenger load factor decreased by 1.4 percentage points and was 75.8 per cent.

Finnair has launched the ability to sell pre-paid seats in the Sabre global distribution system.
Finnair initiates long-haul fleet financing
Finnair has signed a memorandum of understanding on sale and leaseback of two Airbus 330 aircraft and two Airbus 350 aircraft. The deal was signed with global aircraft leasing and financing company GECAS and is valued at approximately EUR 320 million.
Japanese government green lights Finnair deal
Japan’s ministry of land, infrastructure, transport and tourism has granted anti-trust immunity to a joint business between Japan Airlines, Finnair and British Airways. This paves the way for Finnair to join the existing joint business between Japan Airlines and British Airways.
