Finnair to link Gatwick with Kittilä, Lapland, for winter 2018

Finnair has announced that it will start flying non-stop from the UK to Kittilä, in Lapland, in addition to the previously announced new service to Ivalo.

The new direct service will link London Gatwick and Kittilä once a week from December 12th until the end of March, 2018.

Lapland is best known for offering a range of winter activities from ice fishing, sighting of Northern Lights and skiing to husky safaris and reindeer sleigh rides.

Finnair will operate a weekly flight between London Gatwick and Kittilä on Tuesdays, with the flights operated by Airbus A320 aircraft.

“There is increased interest towards Finland and especially Lapland as tourist destinations, and we are excited to be able to offer this new non-stop service from London direct to Kittilä in addition to the Ivalo service,” said Andrew Fish, general manager, UK, Ireland and Benelux.

Finnair is the leading airline flying to Lapland and connects travellers via Helsinki to five additional Lapland airports with several weekly connections, and timetables designed to support smooth connections from the UK.

Finnair is also growing its capacity to several Lapland airports for the winter 2017 season.

Between January 1st and March 24th, Finnair will add four weekly frequencies to Rovaniemi operating on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, operating the route up to five times daily from Helsinki.

Kuusamo will see a 23 per cent growth in seat capacity with three additional weekly frequencies operating on Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays.

These flights will be operated mostly with Embraer 190 aircraft.

During the winter 2017 season, Finnair will also operate new non-stop flights to Lapland airports from Paris and Zurich.

In total, Finnair will be adding approximately 57,000 seats to its winter capacity in Lapland compared to the previous winter 2016 season.
