Etihad Airways has released a 360-degree virtual reality film starring Academy Award winning actress Nicole Kidman. This marks the first time that a Hollywood actor has ever starred in a fully immersive virtual reality movie. The five-minute feature, titled ‘Reimagine’, is a coup for the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, and immerses its viewers in a fully experiential journey following Nicole Kidman through one of its new Airbus A380s flying between New York and Abu Dhabi.
Mawadri takes up Etihad leadership role in Nigeria
Etihad Airways has appointed George Mawadri as its new general manager in Nigeria, where he will be responsible for growing the airline’s relationships with its travel trade and corporate customers while furthering the development of the airline’s commercial strategy in Nigeria. Mawadri brings a vast amount of airline experience and knowledge to the position having served with British Airways for 19 years in Uganda, Kenya and Zambia in the East and Central Africa region, as well as the surrounding feeder markets of Zimbabwe, Malawi, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Sudan and South Sudan.

The new enterprise - which will operate assets including Etihad Airways, Etihad Airways Engineering, Etihad Global Cargo Management Company, the Global Loyalty Company, Hala Abu Dhabi, and Etihad Airport Services – will be led by James Hogan.

Currently chief commercial officer at the growing carrier, Baumgartner steps up as part of a wider restructuring at the top of the Etihad leadership. As part of a restructuring, James Hogan has been appointed Etihad Aviation Group president and chief executive, in what will be an expansion of his previous role of president and chief executive of the airline.
Etihad appoints new general manager for China
Etihad Airways has appointed Peter Li as its new general manager for China. Li will lead the development of Etihad Airway’s commercial strategy and represent the Abu Dhabi based airline in China. He will be responsible for further strengthening Etihad Airways’ partnerships with travel trade partners and corporate customers.
Etihad Airways delivers strongest annual financial results to date
Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has announced its strongest annual financial results to date, with a net profit of US$103 million on total revenues of US$9.02 billion. The performance, which marked the airline’s fifth consecutive year of net profitability, also saw earnings before interest and tax of US$ 259 million, and earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, amortisation and rentals of US$ 1.4 billion, representing 16 per cent of total revenues.

Etihad Airways signs codeshare deal with Avianca
Etihad Airways and Avianca, one of Latin America’s leading airlines, have announced a new codeshare partnership. Under the agreement, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates will place its ‘EY’ code on Avianca operated flights between Bogota and London Heathrow and Madrid Barajas, while Avianca will place its ‘AV’ code on Etihad Airways flights between Abu Dhabi and London and Madrid.
Etihad Airways increases flights to South Africa
Etihad Airways is introducing three additional passenger flights per week between Johannesburg and Abu Dhabi during the months of July until September to cater for the increased demand on this busy route over the summer. Complementing the airline’s existing daily service between the two cities, the new flights will be operated by a combination of Airbus A330-200 and Boeing 777 aircraft, offering a total of 2,200 additional seats in Business Class and 21,500 additional seats in Economy Class over the three-month period.
Etihad Airways celebrates a decade of Manchester flights
Etihad Airways has marked the tenth anniversary of its services to Manchester Airport. Since the route was launched in March 2006, Etihad Airways has operated over 10,000 flights between Manchester and Abu Dhabi. Due to its popularity in the north of England, the frequency increased to twice daily in August 2011.
