Africa Hotel Investment Forum 2012: Emaar brings Address brand to Kenya
Emaar Hospitality Group has further strengthened its global footprint, particularly in the fast-growing markets of Africa, with a new management contract to operate a uniquely designed resort near the world-famous Masai Mara in Kenya. To be operated under the flagship five star premium hotel brand of Emaar, The Address Hotels + Resorts, the new resort in Kenya marks the second hotel management contract for the company in Africa.
Emaar Hospitality appoints new chief operating officer
Emaar Hospitality Group has announced the appointment of Jurgen Baumhoff as chief operating officer, responsible for leading the management team across all aspects of operations. Baumhoff will oversee the business development and expansion plans of Emaar Hospitality Group, as well as the general administration of all hotels and leisure properties of the company.
Marc Dardenne leaves Emaar
Marc Dardenne, CEO of Emaar Hospitality - the developer of projects including the world’s tallest tower Burj Khalifa and the Armani Hotel Dubai - is leaving the company. Emaar confirmed that he will be replaced by Chief Operating Officer, Patrick Heuze.
Emaar goes from strength to strength
Dubai-based property developer Emaar, the group behind the world’s tallest tower Burj Khalifa, has registered a net profit of Dhs421m ($115m). The company cited project deliveries in the UAE and international markets for the solid figures. Its flagship Dubai Mall reported a record footfall, whilst Address Hotels recorded an average occupancy of 87 percent.
Emaar seeks Indian expansion
Emaar Hospitality Group has confirmed it is assessing potential partners as it seeks to bring its ‘The Address’ brand to India for the first time. The Dubai-based property group plans to bring the five-star chain to Indian capital Delhi within the next two years.
Saudi Arabia to build world’s tallest skyscraper - twice height of Burj Khalifa
The Saudi Royal family has unveiled plans to start construction of the world’s tallest skyscraper. The Kingdom Tower will measure 1.6km high, making it twice the height of the current world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. The mixed-use development will cost £12bn and consist of hotels, offices, luxury apartments and a shopping centre.

Emaar hands Hamptons control to Countrywide
Emaar Properties has handed part of subsidiary Hamptons International to UK estate agency Countrywide in a move designed to free the developer to focus on the Middle East and North Africa. Emaar did not specify if it had sold the operations of Hamptons to Countrywide and did not give a value for the deal.

Dubai has opened the world’s tallest building, renaming it the Burj Khalifa in honour and gratitude of the United Arab Emirates president Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahyan. Plans have also been announced to open the world’s first Armani Hotel, which is located inside the tower, to the public in March.
Dubai markets rally after Emaar shelves merger
Dubai’s stock markets have soared today following news that Emaar was scrapping a merger with three other state-owned real estate groups, in a move that distances it from fears of growing toxic debt within government-owned companies.
