New Volaris flight links Cancun to San Juan, Puerto Rico
Puerto Rico Tourism Company executive director Ingrid Rivera Rocafort has welcomed a new direct flight offered by Mexican airline Volaris from Cancun, Quintana Roo, to San Juan, Puerto Rico. The flight will also connect to Mexico City. Volaris is the Mexican low-cost airline with routes in Mexico and the United States. The route will begin operating as of July 2nd, 2015, every Thursday and Sunday.
Strong accommodation figures from Puerto Rico tourism
Puerto Rico’s tourism industry continues to grow, as noted by the executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Ingrid Rivera Rocafort, while announcing an increase of hotel occupancy rates for February 2015, compared to the same month during the previous year. “PRTC is pleased that the country’s preliminary numbers in hotel occupancy for the month of February 2015, project a strong increase trend of 4.8 points, compared to the same month in 2014,” she explained.
Puerto Rico to welcome largest cruise ships in 2016
Next year Puerto Rico will welcome the largest cruise ships in the world, Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas, both from the Royal Caribbean line. The news was announced earlier by Puerto Rico Tourism Company executive director, Ingrid Rivera Rocafort, and Port Authority executive director Colberg Ingrid Rodríguez.
Puerto Rico welcomes Caribbean Travel Marketplace 2015
Puerto Rico has been hosting the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association Caribbean Travel Marketplace 2015 at the Puerto Rico Convention Center. The event is considered one of the most important symposiums of the tourism industry in the Caribbean. Ingrid Rivera Rocafort, executive director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, explained that around 1,100 delegates from 29 different countries were expected to attend.
Puerto Rico Tourism Company launches agricultural tourism programme
Executive director for the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Ingrid Rivera Rocafort, has announced the start of the agency’s Agricultural Tourism Program with the official certification of Hacienda Tres Ángeles in the municipality of Adjuntas, located at the Island’s central mountainous region. Agricultural Tourism is a form of sustainable tourism, in which the visitor has the opportunity to learn about agricultural areas, tasks, local products, native foods and the region’s everyday life, as well as the destination’s cultural heritage and traditions.

Aerostar Airport Holdings to run San Juan airport
Aerostar Airport Holdings has won the right to run Luis Munoz Marin Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, for the next 40 years. Mexican company Aerostar already operates nine airports in Mexico, including Cancun.
Puerto Rico launches salsa national marketing campaign
Puerto Rico Tourism Company has launched a national marketing campaign enticing travellers to learn to salsa on the eastern Caribbean island. Angie Sloan, regional director for PRTC in the UK, said: “The destination has been opened up significantly to travellers from the UK since the launch of British Airway’s direct flight from London Gatwick and this campaign will showcase the destination as one that invites a mix of Latin, Caribbean and American cultures, particularly in Old San Juan, reborn in recent years as one of North America’s hottest urban destinations and the place to experience Puerto Rican salsa.”

To launch its Puerto Rican Salsa season, the eastern Caribbean Island of Puerto Rico will be inviting agents to join in the action with a party at Floridita in London’s west end. The event will launch a national advertising campaign by the tourism authority, which is looking to raise the profile of Puerto Rico to the UK market.
Iberia boosts services to San Jose, Costa Rica
Spanish flag-carrier Iberia has announced plans to increase its capacity on flights between Madrid and San Jose in Costa Rica by 5.5 per cent, to offer a total of 234,000 seats this year. The carrier – part of International Airlines Group - will use A340-600 aircraft, which have an extra 100 seats each.
