Cunard Line, one of the oldest names in shipping but with the youngest fleet at sea, is to offer its guests the opportunity to be married on board for the first time in its 171-year history. Peter Shanks, Cunard president, explained: “Most of our competitors have been developing increasingly popular and lucrative ‘Weddings at Sea’ programmes, and these are now very big business in the cruise industry.”

US health and safety officers have failed Cunard’s luxury Queen Mary 2 in a damning inspection that found everything from cockroaches in the food storage to “extremely dirt” water in the children’s pool. Inspectors carried out the survey unannounced when the ship docked in New York.

Captain Christopher Rynd has been appointed Commodore of the Cunard fleet - Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria – the youngest fleet in the industry and the most famous ocean liners in the world. Captain Rynd assumes the title until recently held by Commodore Bernard Warner who retired from the company on April 19th 2011.
