New leadership for Costa as Palomba steps onboard

Costa Crociere is has confirmed the appointment of Neil Palomba to the newly created role of senior vice president hotel operations and guest experience with the line. In this position Palomba will oversee and develop hotel operations and guest services for the Costa fleet, reporting directly to Michael Thamm, chief executive of Costa Crociere.

As part of Costa Cruises’ ongoing investment in quality and sustainability, three of the fleet’s ships are scheduled to arrive in Genoa this month for planned maintenance work. Costa Cruises is investing a total of more than €10 million in the works which will be performed at San Giorgio del Porto shipyard in Genoa, one of the international leaders for ship repairs and refitting.

Dockwise, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Royal Boskalis Westminster, has been awarded the contract to load and transport the Concordia wreck from Isola del Giglio onboard the Dockwise Vanguard. The contract was awarded by Costa Crociere. Following the successful parbuckling of the Concordia, and in anticipation of the pending re-float, Dockwise and the client have been in discussion to seek a safe solution to remove the Concordia wreck from Isola del Giglio in Italy.

Costa Crociere has appointed Hansjoerg Kunz as vice president communication and sustainability of Costa Crociere, which includes the Costa Crociere, Aida and Iberocruceros brands. Kunze will take over responsibility from Mina Piccinini, who after a successful career with the company has decided to leave due to personal commitments.

Costa Cruises has invested approximately €550 million in what will be the largest cruise ship flying the Italian flag - Costa Diadema. At 132,500 gross tonnage, 306 metres long and 37.2 metres wide, and with a total passenger capacity of 4,947, 1,253 crewmembers and 1,854 cabins, the ship will become the flagship of the Costa fleet.
