Boeing and Lufthansa have reached the next major milestone on the 747-8 Intercontinental program with the start of pre-delivery testing of the new airplane at the German flag-carrier’s main operations base at Frankfurt Airport. Lufthansa will conduct a number of tests from today until December 9th to help ensure a smooth integration of the newest member of the 747 family into Lufthansa operations.

Hong Kong Airlines is to acquire more than 50 new aircraft over the next four years, as part of a major expansion of its operations on international and Chinese domestic routes. Together with its sister carrier, Hong Kong Express, the carrier currently operates a fleet of 18 aircraft – eight wide-bodied Airbus A330-200s and ten narrow bodied Boeing 737s – to 23 destinations in China, north and southeast Asia and Moscow.

Singapore Airlines has firmed up an order with Boeing for eight more B777-300ERs for use on medium and long-haul routes. The order was announced in August when a letter of intent was inked, with a firm purchase agreement now in place, enabling deliveries of the aircraft to begin in the 2013/14 financial year.

Boeing and Singapore Airlines have announced an order for eight additional 777-300 Extended Range (ER) airplanes. “This order is part of our ongoing fleet expansion and modernisation program, which enables us to offer our latest cabin products to our customers,” said Goh Choon Phong, chief executive officer for Singapore Airlines.
