Boeing selects 777X full-flight simulator supplier
Boeing has selected TRU Simulation + Training as its supplier for the first 777X full-flight simulator suites for Boeing’s pro forma campuses. Pro forma training is offered to customers as part of the airplane sale. Each simulator suite will include a full-flight simulator and a high-fidelity, flat-panel classroom trainer.
Ryanair welcomes latest Boeing 737-800 milestone
Boeing and Ryanair have marked the latest milestone in their partnership, with the delivery of the airline’s 400th Next-Generation 737-800. The Irish low-cost carrier operates the largest fleet of Next-Generation 737-800s in the world. “The Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with its industry leading technical reliability and seating capacity, has been the foundation upon which our successful and safe growth has been built upon, since we took our first delivery in March 1999,” said Ryanair chief operations officer, Michael Hickey.
Boeing to cut 4,500 staff from worldwide workforce
American aviation giant Boeing has confirmed it will cut 4,500 jobs from across its international workforce. The majority of the positions will go by the middle of 2016, with a third expected to come from voluntary redundancies.
Pegasus completes $500m aircraft deal with Boeing
Boeing and Turkey’s leading low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines, have finalised an order for five Next-Generation 737-800 airplanes, valued at approximately $505 million based on expected list prices at delivery. Pegasus Airlines and its subsidiaries, Air Manas and Izair, operate a fleet of 58 737-800s and a total of 69 aircraft.
Air Niugini signs with Boeing for four 737 MAX 8 planes
Air Niugini has signed an order for four 737 MAX 8 airplanes with Boeing. “Papua New Guinea is like no other place on earth and the 737 MAX will allow us to economically and efficiently connect our beautiful country with the rest of the world. “The superb economics of the 737 MAX will enable us to increase flight frequencies and develop into new markets which offer significant opportunities for Air Niugini,” said Frederick Reiher, chairman of Air Niugini.
Muilenburg elected Boeing chairman as McNerney steps down
The Boeing board of directors has elected Dennis Muilenburg as its next chairman, effective March 1st. He succeeds James McNerney, who is stepping down from the board, while Boeing independent lead director Kenneth Duberstein continues in that role. Muilenburg, 52, succeeded McNerney as Boeing’s tenth chief executive and joined the board last July.
Boeing delivers first 787 Dreamliner to Saudia
Boeing and Saudia, Saudi Arabia’s national airline, have celebrated the triple delivery of two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and a 777-300ER (Extended Range). A third Dreamliner will be delivered to Saudia within the next week. The airline ordered eight 787-9s in 2010.
Boeing 737 MAX 8 makes first test flight
The Boeing 737 MAX 8 took to the skies for the first time earlier. The 737 MAX program achieved the milestone on schedule which begins a comprehensive flight-test program leading to certification and delivery. With the latest technology LEAP-1B engines from CFM International and Boeing-designed Advanced Technology winglets, the first member of the efficient 737 MAX family completed a two-hour, 47-minute flight, taking off from Renton Field in Renton, Washington at 09:46 local time and landing at 12:33 at Seattle’s Boeing Field.
Boeing reports full year revenue of $96bn
Boeing has reported fourth-quarter revenue of $23.6 billion and core earnings per share of $1.60. Fourth quarter 2015 results reflect the previously announced $569 million after-tax charge ($0.84 per share) on the 747 program as a result of a slow recovery in the air cargo market which was partially offset by solid core operating performance across the company. GAAP earnings per share was $1.51.
End nears for iconic Boeing 747 as cargo market slows
Boeing has said it will lower the production rate on the 747-8 program to match supply with near-term demand in the cargo market. To account for the market and production impacts, the company will recognise a $569 million after-tax charge when it announces financial results for the fourth quarter of 2015.
Boeing reaches record commercial deliveries in 2015
Boeing delivered 762 commercial airplanes in 2015, 39 more than the previous year and most ever for the company as it enters its centennial year. “The Boeing team has worked hard to achieve strong performance,” said Boeing Commercial Airplanes president Ray Conner. “Our team did a fantastic job achieving higher deliveries and getting our products to our customers as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
Air China completes $2bn Boeing 777-300ER order
Boeing and Air China today announced an order for six additional 777-300ER (Extended Range) jetliners. The order is valued at more than $2 billion at current list prices and bolsters Air China’s long-haul widebody fleet as it looks to expand its international network.
