Intrepid Aviation receives first Boeing 777-300ER

Boeing and Intrepid Aviation have marked the delivery of Intrepid’s first direct ordered Boeing airplane, a 777-300ER that will be leased and operated by Philippine Airlines. This airplane is the first of four 777-300ERs ordered by Intrepid. Philippine Airlines plans to use the new airplane primarily on routes to North America.

Lufthansa has said goodbye to its Boeing 737 fleet after 48 years. A B737-300, with registration D-ABEC (“Karlsruhe”), flew from Frankfurt to Hamburg on special flight LH9922, where Lufthansa bid farewell to its B737 fleet during a joint event with Lufthansa Technik. After a special ceremony, captain and fleet commander Ulrich Pade and his crew flew back to Frankfurt with a group of media representatives as well as a number of employees on board.

Boeing and UPS have announced an order for 14 747-8 Freighters. The agreement also includes an option to purchase an additional 14 of the cargo airplanes. “These aircraft are a strategic investment for increased capacity for UPS customers around the globe,” said Brendan Canavan, president, UPS Airlines.

Boeing has reported third-quarter GAAP earnings per share of $3.60 and core earnings per share of $3.51. The figures reflect the overall solid execution on production programs and services, favourable tax items ($0.98 per share), and timing of aircraft deliveries. At the same time, revenue guidance has been increased $500 million to between $93.5 and $95.5 billion on higher commercial deliveries.

Boeing and Swiss International Air Lines have confirmed a new order for one 777-300ER (Extended Range), valued at $339.6 million at list prices. The Swiss airline had previously ordered nine 777s and taken delivery of six this year as it continues to establish the 777-300ER as its flagship.

Boeing has formally opened a new composite centre on its St. Louis campus that will house the company’s largest commercial aviation work statement ever placed at the site. The centre is a visible representation of the company’s efforts to diversify and grow its St. Louis-area operations. The 424,000-square-foot facility will initially build composite parts for the company’s newest commercial jetliner, the 777X.

Boeing and China Southern Airlines today finalised an order of 12 787-9 Dreamliners, valued at $3.2 billion at current list prices. The new order strengthens China Southern’s expanding long-haul fleet. “The 787 Dreamliners have helped us to achieve initial success in implementing our internationalisation strategy in the past few years and enabled us to make our operation and services more appealing to passengers,” said Tan Wangeng, chief executive, China Southern Airlines.

Boeing has reported second-quarter revenue of $24.8 billion on strong commercial deliveries and services growth, up one per cent on last year. GAAP loss per share of $0.37 and core loss per share of $0.44 reflect the previously announced 787 cost reclassification ($1.33 per share) and charges on the 747 program ($1.28 per share) and the KC-46 Tanker program ($0.62 per share), partially offset by solid execution and higher volume.

Boeing and Malaysia Airlines Berhad have announced an order for 25 737 MAX 8 airplanes, valued at $2.75 billion dollars at current list prices. The order, previously attributed to an unidentified customer on the Boeing Orders & Deliveries website, also includes purchase rights for additional 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 9 airplanes.
