Dhradhul to lead Tourism Council of Bhutan
Dorji Dhradhul has joined the Tourism Council of Bhutan as director general. Prior to joining the organisation, Dhradhul served as dzongda (chief administrator) of Gasa District.
Bhutan welcomes launch of new helicopter transfer service
Officials at the Tourism Council of Bhutan have welcomed the launch of a new helicopter transfer service run by Royal Bhutan Helicopter Services. The new service will allow visitors the opportunity to see the mountain kingdom like never before.
Dusit moves into Bhutan with two new properties
Known by many as one of the “happiest countries in the world,” leading Asian hospitality group Dusit International has announced its expansion to the Kingdom of Bhutan. The company will bring its contemporary dusitD2 brand to the Kingdom’s capital city of Thimphu, as well as to scenic Punakha. The first of these projects, the dusitD2 Thimphu, will launch in 2017.
Bhutan on track for record tourism year
The Tourism Council of Bhutan has announced an increase in visitor numbers to the country between January and September 2014, which compared to the same period last year. Visitor numbers rose to 88,138 from 75,771 people, becoming one of the most successful tourism years for the Himalayan Kingdom.
New airline enters Bhutan aviation market
Tashi Air, operating as Bhutan Airlines, Bhutan’s first privately owned airline has announced the launch of a new daily international route between Paro and Bangkok, allowing visitors a second choice of airline when visiting the mountain kingdom. The inaugural flight to the Land of the Thunder Dragon will take place on October 10th 2013 from Bangkok where the airline’s Airbus 320 is based.
Tourism Council of Bhutan launches new website
The Tourism Council of Bhutan has launched a new website, offering travel information and advice to all visitors to the country. The website includes an interactive map, which breaks the country down into Eastern, Central and Western regions, providing information and locations of all available trekking routes, Dzongs, monasteries, hotels and attractions in each.
Bhutan boosting presence in UK outbound tourism market
Latest yearly tourism figures for Bhutan show a significant increase in the number of UK visitors to the country in 2011 compared to 2010. A total of 37,481 international visitors entered Bhutan in 2011 representing a 38 per cent increase from the 27,196 in 2010. Of those 2,795 were British compared to 772 from the previous year – an increase of 1,023.
Tourism Council of Bhutan delivers statement on earthquake
A powerful earthquake hit Sikkim on September 18, 2011 and fairly powerful tremors were also experienced in Bhutan at around 1840 hours. No tourists in Bhutan at the time of the earthquake were harmed.
PATA steps up to organise Bhutan’s first travel trade show
The third PATA Annual Adventure Travel and Responsible Tourism Conference will take place in Paro, Bhutan, February 3rd-7th, 2012 – the first such event in the mountainous kingdom. The official theme for the event will be High Value Tourism – Low Impact Footprints.
