The completion of Phase I and Phase II of a major upgrade of the Seattle Maintenance Facility is being celebrated by Amtrak and its partners. The facilities support Amtrak operations and maintenance agreements in the Pacific Northwest for the Empire Builder, Coast Starlight, Amtrak Cascades, and Sounder commuter trains.

Now that the state has agreed to accept liability for potential rail crashes near Miami, Amtrak representatives say they are revising their 2010 ridership and revenue studies to make sure passenger rail service through the Treasure Coast is still feasible.

Federal and state officials joined representatives of the Town of Normal and Amtrak in opening a multimodal transportation center to serve as a station for Amtrak rail and motorcoach passengers, local transit buses and as the focal point of a new urban center of a community that is among the top 50 Amtrak locations nationwide by ridership.

The City of Battle Creek has completed a $3.6 million renovation and remodeling of the Intermodal Transportation Center used by Amtrak and other carriers, transforming a relic of disco-era design into a modern facility that is so different that even the entrance and the address have been changed.
