Amtrak offers veteran employment opportunities

Amtrak is proud to support our nation’s service men and women by continuing its efforts to hire veterans to operate America’s Railroad®. Amtrak has a long history of providing career opportunities to veterans as well as active military members and values the leadership, reliability and high-tech skills they bring to the company.

“As America’s Railroad, Amtrak is proud to hire veterans and find they bring innovation, and a safety-focus to the work environment,” said Amtrak President & CEO Joseph H. Boardman, a Vietnam veteran. “Their leadership, selflessness and dedication are a source of pride for our country and for our company.”
Amtrak currently employs more than 1,500 military veterans and is a member of the Employer Partnership of the Armed Forces program, recruiting at numerous military job fairs across the country. Since January 2012, more than 14 percent of new hires have been veterans.

“As a Vietnam veteran, I understand the commitment and sacrifice of military personnel and am proud we are able to utilize their skills in numerous capacities in the Amtrak workforce,” said Amtrak Board of Directors Chairman Tom Carper. “The success of our railroad depends on our employees, and military service members bring skills that emphasize quality and productivity, resulting in a better experience for our customers.”
Amtrak offers a variety of career opportunities across the country in both operations and non-operational categories, including business development; environmental, health and safety; government affairs and communications; information technology; labor relations; marketing and product development; police and security; reservations call center support; transportation operations; engineering; finance; human resources; inspector general; law; mechanical operations; procurement and material management; and system operations.

In addition to employment opportunities, Amtrak offers veterans a 15 percent discount with a Veterans Advantage Card, and active duty U.S. military personnel, their spouses and their dependents are eligible for a 10 percent discount off most Amtrak rail fares.
