Thanksgiving is the busiest travel period of the year for Amtrak and America’s Railroad® is ready and prepared to accommodate additional passengers with extra trains scheduled in the Northeast Corridor, the Chicago hub, the Pacific Northwest and in California.
Amtrak delivers aid to the Northeast
Amtrak is bringing a railcar loaded with relief supplies donated in Slidell, La., to New Jersey communities hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. What Slidell leaders call the “Train of Hope,” has filled a baggage car provided by Amtrak and is being carried on the northbound Crescent that left New Orleans.

Amtrak: 110mph rail service previewed in Illinois

Schneider, Amtrak Chairman Tom Carper, and local leaders to celebrate the start of 110-mph rail service in Illinois. Today’s demonstration of 110-mph speeds between Dwight and Pontiac on the critical Chicago-St. Louis rail corridor represents a historic step towards the establishment of a high-speed rail network that will secure Illinois’ position as the Midwest’s transportation hub.
Amtrak names Michael Decataldo GM of Northeast corridor services
Amtrak has named Michael J. DeCataldo, Jr., to the new position of general manager, Northeast Corridor (NEC) Services. He will have accountability for safety, customer satisfaction, ridership, on-time performance, and financial results for the Northeast Corridor business line. Mr. DeCataldo is currently Amtrak general superintendent, Northeast Division.
