Amadeus leads attack as Lufthansa imposes GDS surcharge
Amadeus has led criticism of Lufthansa’s decision to add fees to global distribution system bookings, arguing costs will increase to the consumer as a result. The concern follows news from the German airline group earlier this week that it would include a surcharge, called the Distribution Cost Charge, of €16 for every ticket issued by a booking channel using GDS from September.
Amadeus reveals millennial travellers increasingly open to cruise travel
New research from Amadeus finds 42 per cent of adults who holiday abroad have never embarked on a cruise holiday, but would be tempted to do so in the future. In addition, 30 per cent would consider swapping an all-inclusive land holiday with an all-inclusive cruise trip of the same value, presenting a significant opportunity for travel agents and the cruise industry to expand its customer base and change existing perceptions of cruise travel.

Amadeus appoints new leadership in UK
Amadeus IT Group today revealed it has hired Champa Magesh as managing director for UK & Ireland, effective June 1st 2015. Magesh will be based at Amadeus UK’s head office at Gatwick Airport, replacing former managing director Diane Bouzebiba. Earlier this year, Bouzebiba was promoted to the role of director of distribution strategic initiatives at Amadeus headquarters in Madrid.
Profits up at tech giant Amadeus
Amadeus IT Holding has reported adjusted profit for the year ended December 31st grew 9.9 per cent to €681 million. This was backed by an increase in revenue of 10.1 per cent, to €3,418 million, and EBITDA growth of 9.9 per cent, to €1,306 million.
Amadeus brings Eurostar closer to global travel agents
Eurostar has signed a global agreement with Amadeus to offer travel agencies and tour operators access to its booking inventory system through the Amadeus rail sales platform. The Amadeus Rail Display & Web Services solutions will enable Eurostar to provide its full range of routes and fares to travel agencies and tour operators worldwide, subject to commercial agreement between the rail provider and the distributors.

Amadeus inks deal with Chinese giant Ctrip.com
Amadeus has announced the signing of an agreement with China’s Ctrip.com International to power its international expansion. The multi-year agreement with Ctrip, China’s leading travel company in terms of market capitalisation, will include the provision of all air content for points of sale outside of mainland China.

Amadeus has closed the gap of the “first and last mile” of the air journey, by announcing the launch of the Amadeus Taxi & Transfer solution in partnership with Cabforce, with Scandinavian Airlines as launch partner. Airlines can now integrate a hassle free “one-stop-shop” in their website, offering a wider range of additional products and services to their customers to increase bookings and revenues.
