Icelandair and ITA Airways introduce strategic partnership
Icelandair and ITA Airways Italy have signed a Codeshare Agreement that will allow customers to seamlessly travel across the two airlines’ networks, opening new and exciting travel possibilities. The flights are available for sale from today, with travel starting 20 January 2025.
Air Canada orders five additional A220s
Air Canada, the national carrier of Canada, has signed a firm order with Airbus for five more latest generation single-aisle A220-300s on the fifth anniversary since taking delivery of its first A220 in December 2019. This follows an initial order in 2016 for 45 A220-300s and a reorder in 2022 for 15 more. Including this latest reorder, Air Canada’s total firm orders for the A220-300 stands at 65 aircraft.
Lufthansa Group purchases additional latest-generation long-haul aircraft
The Lufthansa Group is purchasing additional Airbus long-haul aircraft, increasing its firm orders for A350-1000 aircraft from ten to 15. The state-of-the-art aircraft of this order will be delivered between 2028 and 2031. The total value of the order is around two billion US dollars at list price. With a total of 60 A350-900s and 15 A350-1000s, the Lufthansa Group is one of the largest A350 customers worldwide.
China Airlines Announces Plan for New Fleet of 24 Passenger and Cargo Aircraft
China Airlines, the Taiwan based carrier, announced plans to order ten Airbus A350-1000 passenger aircraft, ten Boeing 777-9 passenger aircraft, and four 777-8F freighters. The new fleet is expected to begin deliveries in 2029 and will be used for long-haul passenger and cargo routes to North America and Europe. China Airlines is actively optimizing its fleet size to deliver robust services for the global passenger and cargo markets. In November 2023, China Airlines began a comprehensive assessment on the transition of passenger and cargo fleet capacities and the demands of network development. A team of leading international and aviation consultants was also retained in February 2024 to study the safety, technology, and cost-benefit of each aircraft. Multiple rounds of talks and price negotiations were conducted with the manufacturers before the new aircraft introduction plan was finalized.
