BBA Aviation has announced the appointment of David Best as president, Asia Pacific. In this new role, Best will be responsible for the strategic development of the aviation support and aftermarket services provider and its businesses in Asia Pacific.
KLM plans to operate flights powered by recycled cooking oil
Dutch flag carrier KLM has unveiled plans to use recycled cooking oil on 200 flights between Paris and Amsterdam. The planes will use biokerosene, a fuel derived from used frying oil, which has to be tested to meet the same technical specifications as traditional kerosene.
Paris Air Show: “Hypersonic” jet to travel from Paris to New York in 90 minutes
EADS, the parent company of Airbus, is to unveil plans for a “hypersonic” plane that can fly twice the speed of Concorde on biofuel made from seaweed. The 3,125 mph jet will transport up to 100 passengers at more than four times the speed of sound, and fly from Paris to New York in under 90 minutes. Tests could start by 2020.

Lufthansa to relaunch inflight internet
Following a deal with Panasonic, Lufthansa is set to relaunch FlyNet, its on-board broadband Internet service, after a three-year hiatus. From the middle of 2010, customers will be able to communicate via the internet and the new service will also permit inflight data transfer over standard GSM/GPRS mobile networks.
