Namiri Plains opens in the Serengeti
Asilia Africa has opened its newest camp in the Serengeti, Namiri Plains. Namiri Plains offers one of the most exclusive experiences in the Serengeti with just six classic safari tents set 70km from the closest neighbour. The area around Namiri Plains has been closed to the world for the past 20 years to create a safe haven for cheetah, today the area has an exceptional population of big cats including one of the highest density of cheetah in East Africa.
China continues Africa investment with railway plan
Chinese cash is to be used to build a railway in East Africa following the signing of formal agreements in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi. The new railway line will run from the costal city of Mombasa, through to Nairobi, and will eventually connect cities in Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan.

Asilia Africa has appointed Dave van Smeerdijk as Director of Marketing and Sales. Dave brings 25 years of safari industry experience, of which 21 years was with Wilderness Safaris.
Hotel pipeline reveals growth in African markets
Research by W Hospitality Group has revealed the number of planned new hotel rooms in the hotel development pipeline in Africa has increased by 16 per cent on last year, which was itself 12 per cent up on 2011. This is based on a sample of 29 international hotel chains, with 59 brands between them, and analyses deals that they have signed with owners.
