Aer Lingus adds B757 service from Shannon to Boston
Aer Lingus is launching its inaugural Boeing B757 service from Shannon to Boston. The expansion plan includes new routes from Dublin to San Francisco and Toronto, as well as frequency increases on services from Shannon to Boston and New York.
Aer Lingus boosts New York flights from Shannon
Aer Lingus has confirmed it will add a sixth weekly service between Shannon and New York JFK from March 30th. The Irish flag-carrier planned to increase from three direct weekly flights to five on the route during summer 2014, but has now announced an additional sixth service.
Aer Lingus Regional announces expansion at Shannon Airport
Aer Lingus Regional, operated by Aer Arann, is to expand its services at Shannon Airport, including the addition of 100,000 passengers, new and expanded routes, and the creation of 20 jobs, the airline announced earlier. The airline said it expects as a result to grow total passenger numbers from Shannon to 200,000 by the end of 2014, rising to 240,000 passengers by the end of 2015.
Aer Lingus chief executive to headline WTM
Aer Lingus chief executive Christoph Mueller will headline the 2013 World Travel Market Airline Programme. Mueller will discuss how he’s delivered strong and improve growth for the Irish flag carrier despite its set of unique challenges as part of a session at the event.
AeroMobile goes live with Aer Lingus
Passengers onboard Aer Lingus’ long-haul flights can now use their own mobile phones to text and browse the internet, using AeroMobile’s in-flight roaming service. All seven of the airline’s Airbus A330 aircraft, which serve the USA from the Republic of Ireland, are fitted with the AeroMobile service, meaning travellers can stay in touch with friends and family by SMS, or email a colleague at 30,000 feet.
Ryanair forced to sell Aer Lingus stake
Ryanair will be required to sell its 29.8 per cent stake in Aer Lingus Group following a decision by the Competition Commission in the UK. The Irish low-cost carrier will be forced to sell its stake down to five per cent.
Aer Lingus expands codeshare with United
Aer Lingus and United Airlines have expanded their codeshare agreement. Aer Lingus will codeshare on United’s year-round non-stop service between Dublin and Washington/Dulles and seasonal non-stop service between Shannon and Chicago/O’Hare, which will operate between June 7 and August 27, 2013. United has also recently expanded codesharing with Aer Lingus to include selected Aer Lingus-operated flights between Shannon and London Heathrow.
Etihad Airways trumpets success of equity alliance strategy
Etihad Airways today heralded a successful first year of its equity alliance strategy, after a financial reporting season which saw each of the five airlines within the alliance – airberlin, Air Seychelles, Virgin Australia, Aer Lingus and Etihad Airways – announce profitable performance. The airlines’ individual and collective results were boosted by a number of measures, including growing codeshare traffic between their networks, successful joint sales and marketing efforts, and a range of increasing business and cost synergies.
Ryanair to appeal EU Commission decision blocking Aer Lingus takeover
Ryanair has confirmed it will appeal the EU Commission decision to prohibit its latest offer for Aer Lingus. The low-cost carrier claimed it offered an “historic” and “unprecedented” remedies package that included not one, but two upfront buyers to take over approximately half of Aer Lingus’ short-haul business.
JetBlue Airways inks codeshare deal with Aer Lingus
JetBlue Airways and Aer Lingus have signed a codeshare agreement that expands upon the partnership that has linked the two carriers’ networks at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Boston’s Logan International Airport since 2008.
Etihad circles Aer Lingus stake
Etihad Airways has confirmed it would be “happy” to discuss the acquisition of the stake presently held by Ryanair in Irish flag-carrier Aer Lingus. Abu Dhabi-based Etihad took a 2.987 per cent stake in Aer Lingus in April.
Etihad Airways and Aer Lingus boost cooperation
Etihad Airways and Aer Lingus have signed an interline and codeshare agreement which follows the UAE national airline’s recent 2.987 per cent equity purchase in the Irish air carrier. Within the agreement Etihad Airways will place its “EY” code on Aer Lingus flights between Dublin, Manchester and London Heathrow, and destinations in Ireland, the UK, the Channel Islands, Portugal, the Netherlands and the US.
