Travelzoo mobile users soar

Global internet media travel company Travelzoo has revealed that mobile users represented 26 percent of all U.S. visits this summer, up from 10 percent in the same period last year.  Since July 1, 2012, more than 4 million visits to Travelzoo came from mobile devices to its highly rated U.S. iPhone and Android apps and U.S. mobile website.

Travel deals received the majority of interest from mobile visitors, with vacations and cruises proving most popular.  In addition, mobile visitors were frequently accessing vacations that cost $500 or more per person, with demand spread across last-minute and advance-purchase trips.

“Millions of Travelzoo subscribers are now accessing our travel deals and Local Deals via mobile devices.  This is testament to the quality and relevance of our mobile offering,” said Dave Ambrose, senior director for mobile and social for Travelzoo.

“It’s particularly rewarding to see travelers buying in-destination deals through their mobile devices while on vacation, as this behavior signals a heightened level of interaction with the Travelzoo brand.”

One of the most popular travel deals this summer was a 15-night cruise between Southampton, England, and Miami, Fla.  The deal was published Aug. 1, 2012, for departures Nov. 30, 2012, almost four months in advance.  More than 30,000 Travelzoo subscribers accessed this deal from mobile devices.

Travelzoo Local Deals - which include vineyard tours, high-quality dining experiences and in-destination activities such as jet skiing, kayaking and whale watching - also have proven very popular with Travelzoo’s mobile audience.  Travelzoo is now frequently accessed by those already on vacation; more than 40 percent of all Local Deals purchases on a mobile device were made while visiting a destination more than 50 miles from home.
