Travelport branches out into Bulgaria

Travelport, one of the world’s leading providers of global distribution systems (GDS), operating both the Galileo and Worldspan platforms, announced today that it has entered into a distributor agreement in Bulgaria where Travelport Bulgaria Ltd will distribute both the Galileo and Worldspan GDS.

Travelport Bulgaria Ltd will be headed up by industry veteran, Hannes Rosenmund, who has worked for nearly 40 years in various managerial positions with Swissair and has spent the last five years as director of a travel agency in Bulgaria.

Oliver Streit, head of new markets in Eastern Europe commented: “Rosenmund has had a very high profile career in the travel industry, spanning nearly four decades and working in a number of different sectors including the aviation sector.  This highly relevant experience and excellent track record were crucial factors when selecting our distribution partner in Bulgaria.”

Streit continued, “This new partnership in Bulgaria marks an important milestone for Travelport and completes our presence in the Balkan region.”

The announcement forms part of Travelport’s ongoing multi-million dollar (US) investment drive in Eastern Europe and Central Asia where it announced plans over a year ago to grow its presence through a combination of new direct operations as well as the recruitment of additional new distribution partners.

Hannes Rosenmund, managing director of Travelport Bulgaria Ltd said, “I am excited to have found in Travelport a reputable technology partner.  After more than ten years of only a single GDS in this country, we are finally able to offer travel agents in Bulgaria a very strong alternative.  I truly believe that the entry of Galileo in Bulgaria will be welcomed by both travel agents and tour operators alike.”

The new Travelport operations were officially launched last week with a customer event which took place at the Radisson Blu Grand Hotel in Sofia on Tuesday 23rd February.  The event was widely attended by travel agents and travel suppliers from throughout the country.
