Somabay Celebrates Ocean Month With an Exciting Programme of Sustainability-Focused Events
This June, Somabay is celebrating Ocean Month with an exciting programme of sustainability-focused events. From marine conservation panel talks to educational boat trips in the Red Sea, the programme has been carefully curated to educate guests on the importance of protecting our oceans.
Kicking off with introductory diving sessions for guests and local residents, and underwater swimming sessions for the Kompass School community available until 07 June , children can discover the importance of marine biodiversity in Somabay. The destination is further fostering its educational engagement on 11 June, with a lecture by in-house Marine Biologist, followed by a session with Turtle Watch Egypt and glass boat experience.
To celebrate World Oceans Day on 08 June, Somabay will be hosting a screening of freediver Khaled El Gammal’s documentary – starting with his first dive, which took place at Somabay – followed by an opportunity to dive deeper into ocean conservation, during a panel talk with Orca, adventurer Omar Samra and representatives from Somabay. The evening will provide an opportunity to introduce the month’s programming, with guests also coming together for a relaqua Yoga session.
Families can enjoy a guided snorkeling tour on 23 June, a signage making art workshop to protect the ocean on 22 June or take to the Red Sea for a boat tour and snorkelling fish identification session with Happy Turtle Boats on 29 June. More advanced divers can then head to one of three ‘Diving Against Debris’ sessions with Orca Dive Centre and Robinson Dive Centre – held on 13, 18 and 25 June – designed to remove plastic pollution from the oceans with the help of Somabay’s guests and residents.
