San Juan County is the newest member of the International Council of Tourism Partners. San Juan County is located in the US state of Utah, where it is referred to as “Utah’s Canyon Country.”

San Juan County encompasses an area of almost 8,000 square miles or 5,186,075 acres (20,700 sq kilometers). This vast region features the greatest archaeological site density in North America, with elevations ranging from 1,000 to 4,000 meters and featuring ecosystems from Red Rock desert through Alpine Tundra.

Charlie DeLorme, Economic Development and Visitor Services Director for San Juan County, said: “We are proud to be the newest destination member for International Council of Tourism Partners. ICTP’s philosophies and goals are in line with our organization’s objectives.”

Charlie DeLorme was appointed Economic Development and Visitor Services Director in August of 2006 by San Juan County, Utah commissioners. From 1983 through 2001, DeLorme was the CEO of W.R.E., Inc., a Utah firm originally founded in 1947, where he was a pioneer of educational sustainable zero-impact adventure travel, providing expeditions and educational travel services in previous companies for, among others, National Geographic, the Smithsonian, and the Archaeological Conservancy.

Geoffrey Lipman, President of the International Council of Tourism Partners, said, “ICTP is thrilled to have San Juan County join our alliance. San Juan County provides a perfect, centralized base of travel to world-renowned features, such as national parks and monuments, including the Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Canyonlands, Arches, Lake Powell, Natural Bridges, Hovenweep, and Mesa Verde. State parks include Edge of the Cedars Museum and the great Goosenecks of the San Juan River. With such natural treasures, it isn’t any wonder why San Juan County chose to align itself with ICTP’s mission to provide quality, green travel and tourism opportunities.
