NYC & Company names NY Aquarium culture spot for August

Located on the boardwalk in Coney Island, Brooklyn, the iconic attraction stands as the oldest continually operating aquarium in the United States. Covering 14 acres and housing more than 350 species of aquatic wildlife, the New York Aquarium hosts a number of year-round exhibits that invite visitors to interact with the animals, birds, reptiles and fish while learning about the importance of preserving their environments. To celebrate being designated Culture Spot for August, the New York Aquarium will offer visitors 20% off of admission August 1–31. The Culture Spot program, produced by the NYC & Company Foundation, promotes cultural tourism in all five boroughs by spotlighting a different arts organization each month and encouraging visitors to discover cultural opportunities.
“Summer is the perfect time for locals and visitors to experience New York City’s aquatic surroundings and attractions, which is why for August’s Culture Spot we chose the New York Aquarium—one of our most iconic draws,” said Annie Bergen, Vice President of Arts and Cultural Programs at NYC & Company. “We encourage everyone to take advantage of this limited-time offer that invites borough exploration.”
“The Wildlife Conservation Society’s New York Aquarium provides an entertaining and educational experience for the whole family,” said Jon Forrest Dohlin, WCS Vice President and Director of the New York Aquarium. “Friendly walruses, amazing sand-tiger sharks, playful sea otters and spectacular sea lions are among the hundreds of species of the more than 8,000 animals that welcome visitors every day of the year. Something new and exciting is always happening at the New York Aquarium, and we invite all to plan a trip and discover our ocean wonders.”
The 20% discount is valid from August 1–31. To receive the discount, visitors must use a special promotion code when purchasing tickets online. The discount is not valid toward group packages, is limited to one coupon per person and may not be combined with any other offers. Coupons will be available August 1–31 at the Official NYC Information Center–Midtown; Official NYC Information Center–Times Square Alliance; Official NYC Information Kiosk–City Hall; and Official NYC Information Kiosk–Chinatown. A coupon and additional details about the special offer will be available at nycgo.com/culturespot beginning August 1, 2011.
