New easyJet route to Jersey from London Southend

New easyJet route to Jersey from London Southend

easyJet, the UK’s largest airline, today confirmed the addition of a new route to Jersey from London Southend - just months after launching eight new destinations from the airport for the first time.

The inaugural flight to the most southerly Channel Island will take off on 2nd May 2012, with seats going on sale from Thursday 22nd September. Flights will operate four times a week (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday), with fares staring from £21.99 (one way, including taxes).

The announcement comes following high demand for seats from easyJet’s newest base which went on sale in July to destinations including: Amsterdam, Alicante, Barcelona, Belfast, Faro, Ibiza, Malaga and Mallorca – with sales outperforming other London Airports by up to three per cent.

Catherine Lynn, easyJet’s Customer and Revenue Director, said: “We are excited to announce our new route to Jersey from easyJet’s newest base. It is testament to the success of our initial eight new destinations from London Southend Airport that we are already able to increase choice for passengers in East London and Essex.

“We’re sure that Jersey will be a firm favourite with holidaymakers looking for an easy and affordable short break to relax and get away from it all.”

Alastair Welch, London Southend Airport Managing Director, said:
“Jersey from London Southend is a popular and historic route which has stood the test of time. It has needed additional capacity for some time and we welcome easyJet fulfilling this. This brings the number of routes served by easyJet from the airport to nine and the total number of destinations to 12. Our rapidly expanding portfolio is encouraging and testament to the airports position serving the buoyant local catchment area and London.”

Jersey, which lies off the coast of Normandy, France, is dubbed the ‘small island with the big personality’ and is famed for its stunning natural beauty, pristine beaches and cultural treasures.

From April 2012 easyJet will operate up to 70 flights a week from London Southend with fares starting from £23.99 (one way, including taxes). The airport is conveniently located within a minute’s walk from a new train station with quick links into London Liverpool Street and Stratford station.
