New Appointment at The Belfry

As part of a major renovation of iconic golf resort The Belfry; Glen Watson, has been appointed as Chef Director in a bid to turn the West Midlands hotel in to a top gastronomic destination.

Operated by De Vere Hotels & Resorts, The Belfry is undergoing a £26m refurbishment of the resort’s facilities spread over 500 acres of countryside. In more recent years, The Belfry has become notorious the world over as a golfing Mecca, allowing players to walk in the footsteps of their Ryder Cup legends. Building on its golfing heritage, The Belfry will be positioned as a leisure destination with major emphasis on its food and beverage offering.

Commencing his role at the end of August, the former Chef Consultant to Albert Roux, Glen Watson will oversee a team of 60. His role will see him upgrade the resort’s dining offering, creating a completely new experience across its three outlets.

He will also be further developing the team’s skills to ensure that The Belfry is seen as a culinary leader in the region.

With 30 years experience Glen Watson has worked with many influential chefs in the industry, including Alan Hill at Gleneagles, David Chambers at Rules Restaurant, Georg Heise at Landmark Hotel, Anton Edelmann at The Savoy London and the incredible Albert Roux.

Glen commented:  “It’s an exciting opportunity for me to return to resorts. The Belfry is known around the world for its status as a golfing resort; I hope to now put it on the map for its culinary credentials.”

Watson has been Chef Consultant at the prestigious Albert Roux Consultancy since 2007. Prior to this he held the position of Head Chef at Chamberlains Restaurant, Leadenhall Market; St James Hotel, London and Hanbury Manor Hotel & Country Club, Ware. From 1998-2000 he was also Head Chef at The Savoy Hotel.
