Canaries rising star in Spain growth

Canaries rising star in Spain growth

Only this week Spain announced its highest ever visitor numbers on record and in July alone it saw a 3.4% yearly increase and 2.9% from January to July 2013.

Luxury specialist, Sovereign Luxury Travel has reported a similar increase with Spain on the up, compared to last year.  Its passenger volume for the Winter season has grown by 8% since the beginning of January 2013 and as the situation in North Africa continues, it is expecting visitor numbers to Spain to grow even further during the coming months.

The Canaries in particular are proving to be the rising star with passenger volume growing at the same rate as that across the whole of Spain.  Gran Canaria in particular has shown strong growth with a 22% rise, followed narrowly by Tenerife with a 17% rise.

Scott Langridge, General Manager of Sovereign Luxury Travel said “We have seen a significant growth to Spain in recent months and there is no doubt that the current political situation is affecting our customers choice of destination this year.  With Spain previously seeing a downward trend, this recent increase will allow the perfect opportunity for visitors to once again reignite their love with the country and enjoy all it has to offer.”

Demand from Sovereign customers is still largely for winter sun and if last year’s temperatures in Spain are anything to go by, holidaymakers can still expect to enjoy a warm climate.  With the Summer holidays coming to an end, an uptake in bookings for October departures is likely to show further growth for the Spanish market.

Only this year, the luxury specialist introduced further all-inclusive options in Spain to its 2014 programme and has a selection of exclusive offers and discounts.  Its programme covers a vast selection of destinations across Spain including the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, as well as mainland Spain.
