Travel site momondo.co.uk has this week analysed its flight searches made during the last three months, for departures during this coming Easter period from London airports. Joburg topped the list as most-searched destination for Brits.

Home to the largest consumer exhibition in the world - the Rand Easter Show, Johannesburg is the largest city in South Africa by population, and a top choice for Brits in 2014 looking for Easter breaks.

And still a strong favourite, the Big Apple entered in second-place, as most-searched destination for Easter. This came after momondo found New York the most-searched city for Brits, for trips over the last Christmas and New Year period.

momondo’s Top 5 list also suggests many Brits are searching for sun this Easter, with Dubai in third place. And the fourth and fifth most-searched destination for Brits over the Easter period, were hot spots Miami and Istanbul, respectively.

Spokeswoman at momondo, Julie Pedersen states, “Many Brits are choosing to spend the Easter holiday in unfamiliar and sunny climates, and this year is no exception. Holidaymakers want to explore new places over this spring break, taking in some sunshine whilst doing so.”

All searches were made using momondo between the 24th of December 2013 and the 25th of March 2014, with a departure date three days before or after the 11th of April 2014 and a return trip three days before or after the 21st of April 2014, (in order to include all of those who take three days off during the week up to Easter).
