Market Harborough Station improvement starts

Market Harborough Station improvement starts

Passengers in Market Harborough are soon to benefit from the second phase of a £100K project designed to modernise the station. Work starts this week (10th February) with the comprehensive refurbishment of the ticket office.

The improvement programme, which will take place over the next two months, means passengers will soon benefit from a raft of enhancements including a completely refurbished ticket office with new accessible windows, contactless payment technology, free Wifi and upgraded passenger information screens.

To allow the refurbishment to take place, alternative ticketing arrangements will be in place for the duration of the work and passengers will need to purchase their tickets from station staff or the ticket vending machines rather than through the ticket office.  A walking route through the ticket office will stay open to access the station and station café.

Neil Micklethwaite, Customer Service and Commercial Director for East Midlands Trains said: “Good rail links are vital for connecting people and businesses. The upgrade of facilities at Market Harborough will make a big difference to the overall travelling experience for the passengers who use it for over 1.4 million journeys every year.

He continued: “During this franchise we will be investing over £10m in our stations as these provide a gateway to our rail services.”
The improvement work will be carried out with minimal disruption to passengers and extra steps will be taken to keep the station open at all times. The work is scheduled to be completed in late March 2014.  Train services will not be affected during the works.
