Lufthansa offers 60 percent of its long-haul flights despite strike action
Following the call by the Vereinigung Cockpit union for full-day strikes on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 March 2026, Lufthansa has published a special flight schedule for both days. More than 50 percent of the originally planned flight programme can be offered on Thursday and Friday. For long-haul connections, the proportion is as high as 60 percent.
Francesco Sciortino, Hub Manager Frankfurt & Accountable Manager Lufthansa Airlines: ‘Lufthansa’s top priority is to get as many passengers as possible to their destinations despite the Vereinigung Cockpit strike call. I would therefore like to express my sincere thanks to the many pilots who have volunteered to work for us and will be on duty on Thursday and Friday.’
In addition, numerous flights to and from Frankfurt and Munich will be taken over by other airlines in the Lufthansa Group and by partner airlines. Larger aircraft will also be used on the strike days to accommodate more passengers.
Despite the strike call for Thursday and Friday, Lufthansa Cargo will be able to fly more than 80 percent of its cargo flight programme.
The Vereinigung Cockpit union has announced that it will exempt flights to the Middle East from the strike call due to the current geopolitical situation. This affects one flight from Frankfurt to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday.

Lufthansa City Airlines will operate all flights scheduled for Thursday and Friday. Lufthansa CityLine, which is also affected by the Vereinigung Cockpit strike on Thursday, will be able to offer almost its entire flight programme again on Friday.
Customers will be actively notified by email if their flight is affected. Passengers who are not contacted can assume for the time being that their flight is not affected. Travellers are asked to check their contact information and keep it up to date so that they can be informed of any changes in a timely manner.
Lufthansa also asks all passengers to check their current flight status on lufthansa.com or in the Lufthansa app. Passengers who have booked through a travel agency can contact their travel agency directly.
