Long takes up leadership role with Royal Mail

Royal Mail has revealed the appointment of Peter Long as a non-executive director and chairman designate.

Long is presently joint chief executive of TUI AG, but is expected to relinquish that role early next year.

He will join the board of Royal Mail on June 18th as a non-executive director and will stand for election at the company’s annual general meeting on July 23rd.

He will succeed Donald Brydon as chairman on September 1st 2015.

Brydon said: “I will be pleased to hand over to Peter in September, and will work closely with him in the coming months.

“His many years of experience in customer-focused companies will complement our diverse board as Royal Mail continues its transformation.”

Long has over 20 years’ experience in FTSE 100, customer-focused companies.

He is expected to assume the role of chairman at TUI AG in conjunction with the new role.

Long added: “Royal Mail is one of the most recognised companies in the United Kingdom and I am delighted to be both joining the board and taking over as chairman in September.
