LIRR gets you to Meadowlands for Giants & Jets Football

One Ticket Ride from Long Island to Meadowlands Stadium Lets You Forget the Traffic, Bridge, Tunnel and Tolls

Are you ready for some football? MTA Long Island Rail Road is once again offering a special, one-ticket ride from Long Island to the New Jersey Meadowlands to see the New York Giants and the New York Jets as well as other select stadium events beginning next week.

This special travel package kicks off with two pre-season NFL games when the Jets take on the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday night and the Giants face the Chicago Bears on Monday night. The single-purchase, round-tip ticket is good for travel on the LIRR and New Jersey Transit (NJT) on game days and includes the standard LIRR fare and $10.50 for the New Jersey portion of travel.
Here’s the play. You take a regularly scheduled LIRR train to Penn Station. At Penn, grab a New Jersey Transit train for the 12 minute ride to NJT’s Secaucus Junction Station. From there, hop on NJT shuttle train for a short ride that takes you to the stadium.
All this time, you’re flashing just one ticket that gets you on the LIRR and both New Jersey Transit trains and back home again.

The Giants and Jets will face-off against each other in pre-season action at the Meadowlands on Saturday, August 27 at 7 PM and the Jets will complete the pre-season there with a game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday, September 1 at 7:30 PM.
The regular NFL season gets underway at the Meadowlands for the Jets on Sunday, September 11 with a game against the Dallas Cowboys that starts at 8:20 PM. The Giants open their home season against the St. Louis Rams on Monday, September 19 at 8:30 PM.
Buying “Train to the Game” Tickets
LIRR customers can purchase joint LIRR/NJT tickets to “Meadowlands” Station for off-peak one-way, round-trip and ten-trip travel. Fans should purchase round-trip tickets before boarding since NJT does NOT sell this joint ticket, and tickets purchased on-board trains cost more.
These tickets are NOT available from Penn, Brooklyn, Long Island City or Hunterspoint Avenue stations and are NOT available on board LIRR trains.
LIRR Tickets Holders:  Commuters/customers that already have an LIRR ticket to Penn or Zone 1 must purchase a NJT ticket to the Meadowlands. NJT tickets can be purchased at windows on the NJT upper level or at ticket machines, available throughout the NJT upper and lower levels. NJT machines list Penn as “New York Penn Station.” Please allow extra time as lines may be long before games. We suggest using machines in NJT waiting area.
