Kuoni celebrates 125 years of Raffles, Singapore

Leading travel company Kuoni is getting in the birthday spirit by helping the famous Raffles Hotel in Singapore celebrate its 125th birthday by inviting Kuoni customers to visit this ‘grande dame hotel’ in 2013 and benefit from a free night!

Kuoni clients who book by 31 January 2013 for stay of three nights will only have to pay for two nights. This offer is valid for stays up until 31 August 2013 and is not combinable with any other offers.  Says Darren Lancaster, Procurement Manager for Kuoni: “This iconic hotel represents one of those ‘not to be missed’ life-experiences. To enter the doors you are instantly surrounded by a history crammed with the most exotic tales. Make this a home for three nights on a tour of Asia, or en-route to Australia, and really live the high-life!” Lead-in prices start from as little as £1,270 per person including flights with Singapore Airlines. Named after Sir Stamford Raffles, founder of Singapore, Raffles was built 125 years ago and soon became the haunt of business tycoons, the great and good, rouges and adventurers, politicians, movie stars, authors and journalists.

Visiting writers included Rudyard Kipling, Somerset Maugham and Noel Coward and a host of foreign correspondents – all of whom fed in the stories and legends, fact and fiction, which have clung to the hotel ever since.  Through their stories, the Long Bar, the Palm Court and the Billiard Room with its tiger, became familiar to people who had never been to Singapore.

And what’s more, Kuoni clients who want to live like a tycoon and get into the celebratory sprit can also indulge in one or all of these unique Raffles offers during their stay: -

The 1887 Sling - The iconic Long Bar at Raffles Hotel Singapore has created a new Champagne Sling, the ‘1887’ – inspired by its legendary Singapore Sling, with a base of the hotel’s limited-edition Billecart-Salmon Brut Réserve Champagne.  Not your standard tipple, the 1887 is a subtle twist on the traditional sling.  The recipe for this high precision cocktail is a closely guarded secret, but its creator, Randolf Velasco, reveals that Gordons Gin, Cointreau and essence of orange, lemon and lime all play a key role.

Limited edition champagne - A limited-edition 125th Anniversary Billecart-Salmon Brut Réserve Champagne will be available to enjoy during this year of celebrations.  It has been exclusively bottled to mark 125 years since this legendary hotel opened.  Established in 1818 by Nicolas François Billecart and Elisabeth Salmon in Mareuil-sur-Ay, Billecart-Salmon is known worldwide for fashioning the most elegant Champagne, fully rounded vintage cuvées with the purest palate and seemingly ageless style.  It is the oldest continuously family owned and operated house in Champagne, currently managed by the seventh generation.

The Reverso - Or turn back time with Jaeger-LeCoultre who have created an exclusive engraving “Raffles Hotel 1887-2012 Singapore”, available on Gents’ Reverso Grande Taille, and Ladies’ Grande Reverso Lady Ultra Thin for guests staying at Raffles Singapore.  The double-sided Reverso watch line is a classic and when the case is turned over, the Reverso is transformed into a jewel that can be personalised forever by an engraving.  Pierre Jochem, General Manager of Raffles Hotel comments: “Like Raffles, Jaeger-LeCoultre never stands still – it continues to inspire and surprise.  Whether it’s staying in Raffles or wearing a Reverso, style and magic has nothing to do with age.  Timelessness is about moving with the times and adapting to the world around us – but never forgetting our heritage, which is priceless.”
