Holidaymakers continue to head for Cornwall as holiday firms run out of accommodation

The economy may still be fragile in its recovery but the Cornish holiday market is booming.  Cornish Traditional Cottages has announced it has practically no availability left until the 21st of August, an unprecedented situation the firm has never previously experienced in its 49 years of trading.

George Edward-Collins, Property Manager, Cornish Traditional Cottages comments, “Ordinarily we might expect 90% of our properties to be booked out during the peak summer weeks - in general terms we would expect to let an established, well located, property for 30 plus weeks in a good year – but we have no availability left for next week and just three properties, less than 1% of our portfolio, available for the week beginning 14th August.”

Customer Services Manager Wendy Mitchell believes this is the sign of an increasing trend. “We’ve seen a steady increase in bookings this year, along with a tendency for later, internet led, bookings. It’s clear from conversations we have with our customers that many are choosing Cornwall over a holiday abroad for a variety of reasons, value for money being one, but we are also seeing many repeat bookings from people who are impressed by the high quality standard we insist on for the properties we represent, and who choose to book with us rather than stay in a hotel.”

The company is always looking for new properties to add to its comprehensive listing of places available for rental and maintains its objective of ‘providing comfortable self-catering holiday accommodation at a reasonable price’, a commitment that sees many of its past customers returning year after year.
