Holiday Extras customers hold optimistic news for cruise

It’s not all troubled seas for the cruise industry according to a new customer poll by the UK’s leading travel add-ons company.

It appears that recent events haven’t taken the wind out of travellers’ sails. Fifty-eight per cent of Holiday Extras customers polled said that a luxury voyage is on the agenda this year. And the news that will put cruise providers in a buoyant mood is that almost half of those (28%) were potential new customers.

These figures are even more encouraging when compared to those of an identical poll ran in November, where 61% of its customers said they were planning to set sail in 2012. This tiny 3% gap shows that travellers’ confidence in taking to the seas hasn’t been dampened by recent events.

There was little change for those who would prefer to keep their feet on dry land, with 42% of Holiday Extras customers saying that a cruise didn’t figure in their travel plans for 2012.

Andrea Clayton, Head of Insurance and Travel Trade Partnerships at Holiday Extras, commented: “This recent survey confirms the findings from the same questions asked in November. And the results are reinforced by the sales of our bespoke Cruise Insurance product, which has enjoyed a forty per cent rise over the past three months.
